Coming off their last release ‘DANCE MY TEARS AWAY’, a fun and danceable synth-pop record, NIGHTMÅNE shows the full range of their emotional intuition with their next single ‘INSOMNIA’. ‘INSOMNIA’ is an epic dark-pop ballad that illustrates the numbness somebody can feel from living in an angry and noisy world. Singer Anthony Starble passionately wails about how he’s finally awake enough to see the unapologetic flaws in humanity. The record has very exaggerated dynamics that mimic the turbulence of the human experience, ranging from a sparse backdrop of only ambient synths in the verses , to layers of vocoder, punchy hip-hop drums, and thick keyboards in the choruses. Producer Sigurd Heimdal isn’t afraid to hit you hard with a wall of sound when the chorus drops, leaving just enough space for Starble to sing ‘I don’t know how you sleep at night’, forcing the listener to pay attention to the track and question whether they identify with being the accuser or being the accused. ‘INSOMNIA’ is a bold track for the polished pop duo and shows that they’re comfortable with being raw and a little rough around the edges.
